Modern Foreign Languages - French
French at Booker Avenue Juniors
Intention
Through the French curriculum at Booker Avenue, our intention is that children develop an interest in learning other languages in a way that is enjoyable and stimulating. We strive to stimulate and encourage children’s curiosity about language. We help children develop their awareness of cultural differences in other countries and therefore promote the British Values of tolerance and respect. The skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing are developed throughout.
Implementation
Our French curriculum is designed to progressively develop children skills in the language, through regular lessons. Children progressively acquire, use and apply a growing bank of vocabulary organised around topics. Children are encouraged and supported to develop their speaking and listening skills through conversational work, singing activities and interactive games. As confidence and skill grows, children record their work through pictures, captions and sentences. All our children have regular language lessons each week. These are delivered by visiting specialist French teachers and native French speakers from School Improvement Liverpool.
In Year 6, children experience a residential visit to Paris where they are able to put their French language skills into practice.
Impact
Children are assessed according to age related expectations in line with curriculum requirements.
