In our PSHE lessons, listening is extra important. At the start of the year, we created a set of rules to ensure that everyone gets as much from PSHE as they can. We will continue to follow them throughout the year.

We have all been very sensible and mature during our SRE lessons. We now know what changes will happen to our bodies during puberty. Below, you can see what we found out about what puberty is and when it may happen to various people.

Today we discussed what dementia is and how we can help promote a good quality of life for people we know who have dementia. We played some memory games to help us understand what it feels like if you struggle to remember things. Below is a link to a website where you can learn more about Alzheimer's and dementia.

Ever wondered how to be happy and healthy in your teenage years? We have discussed this in detail and have been creating some advice videos to help other understand how to achieve a good quality of life as a teenager.

We have been working design teams to create menus that are suitable for a range of dietary requirements. Our team work skills were fantastic.

Many people would panic in an emergency situation. We have been practising what to do when someone is hurt and revising our first aid vocabulary. We role played phoning 999 for help and played some vocabulary games to ensure we know how to explain what is wrong with an injured or ill person. We have created some first aid dictionaries to show off what we found out.

We have explored pictures in the media to see what messages they are sending to young people and how they may affect our body image. This lead into a debate about how we can encourage ourselves and others to have a positive body image.

We have been learning about different families and what they all have in common. Who've been celebrating the differences in our families.

We have been learning about the dietary requirements that some people have. We have been sorting foods according to whether they are suitable for people who are diabetic, lactose intolerant, coeliac or allergic to nuts.

We are currently discussing the risks of using the Internet and the problems that we may encounter when we spend time online. We have spent a lesson focusing on spam email. We developed some jingles to offer advice about what spam is, how to avoid it and how it can cause us harm. One brilliant example can be watched below. We have finished our PSHE life skills course. Over the last nine weeks, we have discussed many aspects of our current lives and future adult lives. Be sure to ask us which skills we are now equipped with. These skills will help us to develop into responsible and happy adults.

This last week was anti-bullying week. We discussed what bullying is and how we can help those around us who are being bullied. We learnt a lot about the different types of bullying and what to do if we experience any of these. We came up with a power for good that we will try to follow at all times. PSHE 2015-16

First aid

We have been discussing emergency first aid. We have extended our vocabulary to include some of the problems that someone may experience when they hurt themselves. We practised performing a primary survey, phoning for an ambulance and helping someone who is choking.

Body image

We have been discussing body image. We talked about how the media portrays what a healthy body is and how this compares to the reality of what a healthy body should look like. We have some messages for you to help you have a positive body image....

Road speed survey

We have been discussing how to stay safe when we are out on the road. As part of our studies, we have been completing a speed survey and spotting potential risks on Booker Avenue.

Different families, same love

We have been discussing how important families are. We discussed all the differences between family types and celebrated the thing they all have in common, love. We created posters to share what we found out.

Bullying

We have been discussing types of bullying and the role of a bully, a victim and a bystander. We discussed how bullying may affect those involved.

Friendship

We have been discussing the importance of friendship and have completed role plays to help us understand how to be good friends to all those around us. Follow some of our advice below.

Today we discussed what love is and how important the people we love are to us. We talked about how love can mean very different things to different people, but realised that loving someone involves caring for them a great deal. We are going to take great care of our family and friends. We watched a lovely video which aided our discussion.
