What is refraction? It is when rays of light travel at different speeds through different materials, causing them to bend and create optical illusions. We completed a range of investigations to explore this process.
What is reflection? We found out by making and experimenting with periscopes. Ask us how these amazing inventions work.
We couldn’t study electricity without considering electrical safety. Below you can watch some of our advice songs about how to stay safe around electrical appliances.
Be the safe, safe
It’s hot, it’s burning
Do you know what a circuit needs to be complete and allow electricity to flow through? We have been experimenting to find out. We discovered that the components need to all be connected by wires that contain metal (a conductor) and that they need to connect to the positive and negative terminals of the battery or cell.
As we are studying electricity this half term, we enjoyed a lesson of revising the components of a circuit today. We made simple circuits with different components. We experimented with adding extra components to a circuit. We also wrote down some key vocabulary and wrote definitions of it for the working wall.
We have been talking about how electricity is made. We discussed renewable and non renewable sources of energy. We also discussed how to save energy in our homes. Watch the informative video below to learn more.
Renewable and non renewable energy
Our new science topic is electricity. Check out our working wall below.
For the past few weeks, we have been learning about how to be as healthy as possible. We have discussed diet, drugs, exercise and hygiene. Today, we brought all our learning together by creating some advice posters to go around school to tell other pupils how to be healthy. You can see some of us working on our posters below.
Read some of the advice on our fabulous posters below.
As part of our discussions of how to maintain a healthy body, we have been talking about exercise and its effect on our body. We performed an investigation to question how exercise effects our pulse. We discussed the elements of our investigation that were fair an unfair. You can see us conducting our investigation below.
As part of our current topic, we are talking a lot about how to stay healthy. We have discussed the different types of teeth we have, why we need these teeth and how to keep them healthy.
6M have been studying the circulatory system. We have discussed the heart, lungs and blood. You can see some of our wonderful work below.
We are now learning about the circulatory system. We have been learning about the heart and how and why it pumps blood around our body. We have also been studying the different components of our blood. You can watch some videos made by some of the class about the blood below.
What is in our blood?
Do you know how your food is digested? Read our helpful explanation texts to find out.
We have been learning about how our food is digested. At the end of our lesson about digestion, we played teacher and explained the processes involved in digestion. You can see some of our tutorials below.
How food is digested
The digestive system
Here is some of the brilliant work we have completed about the digestive system.
We have been discussing the organs of the body and their functions. We created a display for our working wall explaining what each organ does for our body.
We have been discussing the components of a balanced meal. Our food triangles below show how much of certain food types we should be eating in order to maintain a healthy body.
Do you know the different food groups? We have been learning about them. You can see some information about them and the foods that fit into them below.
