Art & Design at Booker

At Booker Avenue Junior School, we believe that art stimulates creativity, inventiveness and imagination. We recognise that art gives the skills, concepts and knowledge necessary for our pupils to express themselves and the world as they see it. We aim to give our pupils the opportunities to:

  • produce a portfolio of creative work,
  • explore their own ideas and record their experiences,
  • become proficient in a number of art and design skills,
  • evaluate and analyse creatives works using relevant and specific vocabulary and,
  • know about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms.

Our current Art & Design scheme allows children to meet all of the Key Stage 2 objectives from the 2014 curriculum, at a level which is accessible to their needs and development. We intend to:

  • create sketch books to record their observations and use them to review and revisit ideas,
  • improve their mastery of art and design techniques, including drawing with a range of materials,
  • improve their mastery of art and design techniques, including painting with a range of materials,
  • improve their mastery of art and design techniques, including sculpture with a range of materials,
  • learn about great artists in history,
  • learn about great designers in history.

The current scheme also offers the opportunity to explore enrichment opportunities, and to extend their work so that it becomes cross-curricular and relevant in all areas of the curriculum.
