Intent

• To help the children to better understand the world’s people, places and environments, and the interactions between them.
• To help the children understand how and why places are changing and how we can influence changes.
• To incorporate British values, for example, tolerance and respect. By examining different settlements, the children learn about other cultures, learning tolerance and understanding of diversity in the world. They develop respect for the difficulties faced in less developed countries, for example natural disasters.
• The curriculum is designed to be progressive in terms of locational knowledge, place knowledge, human and physical geography and skills and fieldwork.
